Writers (WTR) are responsible for clerical work in the day-to-day administration of the Navy. Writers are employed throughout the Navy in ships and shore establishments, including the Department of Defence in Canberra.
Responsibilities of a Writer include:
- Pay Administration and Financial Conditions of Service;
- Maintenance of personnel records;
- Processing of accounts;
- Clerical duties, including filing, postage and handling of correspondence and maintenance of Books of Reference;
- Provide advice to Command and supervisors on human resource management issues;
- Provide advice to sailors and officers on Conditions of Service Entitlements;
- Personal assistant to the Commanding Officer (both at sea and ashore); and
- Assistance with the preparation of applications for various personnel entitlements and maintain accounts ledgers.
