Navy's New Entry Officer Course

Training.

The training our officers and sailors receive is world class and is equally as valuable to potential employers in the civilian world as it is to us.

When you join the Navy as an officer you'll undertake Initial or Basic Training at the Royal Australian Naval College and as a sailor at HMAS CERBERUS.  The training curriculum is varied, exciting and is aimed at professional and personal development of the individual and the team.

Sailor training

As an aspiring sailor the first thing you'll do is complete your Basic Training, at the RAN Recruit School at HMAS CERBERUS, in Victoria. You will learn about teamwork, living with other people, life on board ship, first aid and combat survivability. Some of this training will take place in the classroom, but there's also a big practical element which includes five days at sea on a training vessel. Learn more

Learning the ropes

Follow the sailor recruits through Basic Training at the RAN Recruit School, including the infamous Mud Run. Watch now

Submariner training

Just like all other new entrants to the Navy, submariner's first point of contact will be the RAN Recruit School at HMAS CERBERUS for Basic Training. You are also required to complete the Initial Collins Class Course which includes Submarine Fire-Fighting and Submarine Escape modules. Learn more

Officer training

When you join the Navy as an officer you'll undertake Initial or Basic Training at the Royal Australian Naval College at HMAS CRESWELL. The training curriculum here is varied, combining both academic and practical and it's fun and exciting. The training is aimed at professional and personal development of the individual, as well as the team. Several training courses are run covering everything from boat work and small arms, to management and leadership skills. Learn more

On-going training

There are some amazing sponsored study schemes and further study opportunities through alliances with civilian tertiary institutions, which you simply won't find in any other industry. Professional development is encouraged at all times, so we'll often pay for you to undertake further training and study if that's something that interests you. Learn more
