Applications

Can I apply online?

Yes. Visit the the My H.Q. site to complete an online application form and fill out the application form at your leisure.

Can I email my resume to DFR as my application?

You will need register for My H.Q. or call 13 19 01 and provide details about yourself and your experience in order to apply for a career in the Navy, Army or Air Force. DFR require specific information that may not be contained within resume documents. The final step in the online application process is to book a meeting session within My H.Q. After you have completed this, a Defence Recruiter should call you back in the timeframe specified.

Can I submit a postal application?

You can only apply over the Internet via My H.Q. or by calling Defence Force Recruiting on 13 19 01. There are no mailing options for applying for jobs in the Navy, Army, or Air Force.

How can I check the progress of my application to the Navy, Army or Air Force?

You can now monitor your application status with the My H.Q. Progress indicator. The Progress Indicator provides visibility of where your application is up to, links and resources will assist you with researching your chosen career path and additional features to keep you informed of what to expect next in the process. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your application or the information on the progress indicator site, please contact your assigned Defence Recruiter directly.

How do I apply to join the Navy, Army or Air Force?

Go to My H.Q. to commence an online application or call 13 19 01.

How do I cancel my account on My H.Q.?

To cancel your My H.Q. account, please contact DFR through our Feedback form

I asked for my web-enabled details, but my login has not come through?

Unfortunately, your application details cannot be web-enabled until your application has progressed and you have booked a meeting session. To check on the progress of your application, you will need to contact your Defence Recruiter. If you do not know who that is, please call 13 19 01 and they will be able to tell you who your allocated Defence Recruiter is and arrange a meeting session so that you may see your details in My H.Q.

I cannot obtain my school results as my schooling was undertaken in another country / they are in another language / at a school, which has since closed. What should I do?

Each State education department has the authority to issue an equivalency certificate for educational courses undertaken in overseas countries. This process and any associated costs are the responsibility of the applicant.

I have applied over the phone; can I also register for My H.Q.?

If you have applied over the phone, you can only register for My H.Q. by calling your Defence Recruiter or calling 13 19 01. Our staff will be able to web-enable your existing personal details and set up a My H.Q. account for you. You cannot register for My H.Q. if you have already applied over the phone or in person at a Recruiting Centre. Attempting to do so may create a duplicate account and may cause delays in processing your application.

I need to put my application form in soon, but don't have all the needed paper work required (such as a School Certificate). What should I do?

Contact the place where you will be going to for the interview and seek further advice.

I registered for My H.Q. but didn’t get my login details?

To retrieve your current login details, please proceed to the Forgotten Password page. There you will need to enter some information and your login details will be emailed to you.

I’ve registered for My H.Q., what do I do now?

The advised process is to search for appropriate jobs and add them to your job preferences in My H.Q. Once you have specified your preferred jobs, you can then complete all of the pages in the My Application area. After you have completed this, your details will be sent to a Defence Recruiter, who should then call you back in the timeframe specified.

Is the MY H.Q. site and my details safe?

The My H.Q. site uses SSL Encryption for securing data transfer. There are some non-secure components that are used for the design and layout of the portal, which are necessary from an infrastructure perspective. All of your personal data is protected with the secure encryption and will not be used for any purpose other than processing your application or for receiving DefenceJobs specific email (only if you provide consent). My details in My H.Q. are locked, how can I update them?

You will need to contact your Defence Force Recruiting Centre directly to change this information. If you do not know the contact details of your Defence Force Recruiting Centre, please call 13 19 01.
