How to Join

The DefenceJobs website allows you to complete your entire job application online. Once you've found the job you'd like to apply for click the 'Apply Now' button to begin your application. After you've submitted your application there are 5 more steps to complete the recruitment process.

YOU Session

After applying you will attend a Your Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) Session at the Defence Force Recruiting Centre closest to you. This session will provide you with a range of job roles you are eligible for. Learn More

Assessment Day

After the YOU Session you will be booked into an Assessment Day where you will undergo a psychological interview, a medical assessment and a Defence Interview. Learn More

Officers Selection Board (officer applicants only)

The Selection Board consists of a series of activities designed to test things like leadership skills, teamwork and other individual abilities considered critical to the role you have applied for. Learn More

Can I join?

Before you submit an application to join the Navy, Army or Air Force, it's worth having a look at the ADF's list of minimum requirements. These cover things like age, citizenship and fitness, and you'll need to make sure that you can pass all of these, for your application to proceed. Learn More

Fitness test

All candidates who have been recommended for appointment or enlistment must undergo a Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) prior to entry. This includes the Multistage Fitness Test (or shuttle run) to measure your aerobic capacity. Army candidates must also perform push-ups and sit-ups. Learn More

Enlistment/Appointment

All successful applicants must attend their Enlistment/Appointment day which is held at a Defence Force Recruiting Centre. You will undergo a final medical check and a ceremony will be conducted before you board the bus to take you to initial military training. Learn More
