Reach your full potential

You can choose from many different jobs and ways to join, which our specialist Indigenous recruitment team can guide you through – answering any questions you have. We'll help you unleash your potential and enjoy a successful and fulfilling career.

Any questions?

You probably have lots of questions about life in the ADF, where you’ll live and what sort of support you’ll get. If you can’t find what you’re looking for here, please contact us.

How fit do I need to be to join?

You’ll need a reasonable level of fitness when you join to ensure you can undertake initial training safely. Find out about the ADF Pre-entry Fitness Assessment on our Health & Fitness page. If you do not meet the minimum fitness standards, you may be given the opportunity to join through an alternative pathway.

What sort of support will I receive when applying?

Your application will be handled by a specialist Indigenous Career Coach who will guide you through the process and answer any questions you have. You will be introduced to them once you have completed your initial application.

Once in the ADF you can access a range of support programs, Indigenous-specific training opportunities, formal and informal networking and one-to-one mentoring and guidance.

Are there opportunities to support my community?

The skills and knowledge you gain will be of great use in your community. We encourage you to return there to inspire others and provide mentorship.

Where will I work?

Much will depend on the job you apply for, however the Recruit to Area pathway may be offered to you if serving near a specific location is important to you, for reasons such as family commitments.

Wherever you are located for your job, you’ll be encouraged to work closely with your community too, attending cultural events and mentoring your people.

Can I speak with Indigenous members about what’s involved?

Yes, as your application proceeds you will be given plenty of opportunities to meet and chat with Indigenous members who have been through the same process. They are trained to mentor you and will be happy to answer any questions you have.
